The Flying Spaghetti Monster

Simeis 147 is nicknamed the spaghetti nebula.

About the target

Simeis 147 aka SNR G180.0-01.7 aka Sharpless 2-240 is a supernova remnant between the constellations Auriga and Taurus. It’s the hardest target I’ve imaged so far as it’s really, really faint. In fact, it’s so faint it is not visible in a single exposure but becomes barely visible when combining multiple subs. It’s also so faint that it was discovered quite “recently” - in 1952.

I’ve captured it back in December 2024, but just now got a result that I’m kinda happy with.

The remnant of a giant explosion. One can clearly see the red and blue shock waves.
